These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of The Daily Quest website, newsletter, and related services at thedaily.quest ("Service"). By subscribing, browsing, signing in, or completing quests, you agree to these Terms.

The Service

The Daily Quest delivers a daily game-development briefing by email and optional creative quests. Quest completion awards XP, streaks, achievements, and leaderboard placement. Some features — public profiles, the Hall of Quests gallery, and advertiser placements — are optional parts of the same Service.

Newsletter subscriptions

  • You must provide a valid email address to subscribe. Choose daily delivery or specific UTC weekdays (1–6 days).
  • Each issue includes industry news by pathway category, optional tool/indie spotlights, quest prompts for every pathway in one email, and clearly labeled sponsored placements where booked.
  • You may unsubscribe anytime via the link in any email or by updating preferences on your profile.
  • We may pause, reschedule, or modify editorial content; quest themes and XP rules may change as the product evolves.

Quest completion

  • Quest completion happens on your profile after magic-link sign-in. Progress is tied to your subscriber email and recorded once per issue.
  • Completing a quest records progress once per issue per subscriber. Duplicate submissions for the same issue are rejected.
  • XP, streaks, boss multipliers, and achievements are calculated by our application logic and may be adjusted to fix bugs or abuse.
  • Optional submission fields (reflection, URLs, screenshots) must comply with the rules below.

Accounts and profiles

Signing in via magic link creates or links a player record to your email. Usernames must be unique. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms or abuse the Service.

User-generated content

When you submit quest work or opt into the public gallery, you agree that:

  • You own or have rights to content you submit (reflections, images, build links).
  • Build URLs must use allowed hosts (e.g. itch.io, github.io, netlify.app, vercel.app, and similar as enforced by the API).
  • Screenshots must be under 5 MB and in supported image formats.
  • Public sharing requires a username and passes automated and/or human moderation.
  • You grant us a non-exclusive license to display approved public submissions on the Hall of Quests, player pages, and related marketing for the Service.

We may remove, reject, or quarantine content that violates our moderation rules, including NSFW material, spam, harassment, or off-topic submissions. Moderation decisions may be automated (safeguards + LLM judge) or made by administrators.

Leaderboard and public profiles

Leaderboards and /player/[username] pages show usernames, display names, XP, streaks, pathways, and approved public submissions — not email addresses. Choosing a username and public gallery sharing is voluntary.

Advertising

Sponsored blocks in newsletter issues and on the site are labeled as sponsored. Advertisers may book packages through /advertise; payment is processed by Stripe when enabled. Ad clicks are tracked through our redirect URLs. We reserve the right to reject or remove ad creatives that violate our standards.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, overload, or attempt unauthorized access to our API or admin tools.
  • Automate quest submissions or manipulate XP through multiple accounts.
  • Submit malware, illegal content, or material you lack rights to distribute.
  • Impersonate others or manipulate leaderboards through multiple accounts or automation.
  • Circumvent moderation, quarantine, or gallery approval workflows.

Intellectual property

Newsletter copy, branding, site design, and original editorial content are owned by The Daily Quest or our licensors. Third-party trademarks and linked articles belong to their respective owners. Icon attribution is listed on our Credits page.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided as is without warranties of any kind. Newsletter content aggregates industry news and links; we do not guarantee accuracy of third-party sources. Quest prompts are for creative practice — results are not professional advice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Daily Quest is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service, email delivery failures, data loss, or third-party links.

Termination

You may stop using the Service anytime by unsubscribing and ceasing to sign in. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms or operational necessity.

Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use after the "Last updated" date constitutes acceptance of revised Terms.
